LAST UPDATED Feb 29, 2008 with 32 Hughes/Roy doujins
I originally had this over at fm_alchemist in this post but under a member's only lock (due to the mods wishes). Since I would like to share this list with other fma communities I decided to post it to my own LJ and then link them, under member-only locks, here where it will NOT be locked. ;)
I compiled all the places where I've found or downloaded FMA DJs into a list beneath the real-cut. Far from complete so feel free to add yours to the list! I divided them into scanlation and raw sites, and now with a new and slowly-growing list of english DJs.
REMEMBER: if you click on a link that takes you to a lj community but for some reason it doesn't pop up (seems broken or gives you an error message of some kind) then it is probobly friends-locked. To remedy this you will have to join the community and then view the post. So if the URL is something like http://community.livejournal.com/fm_alchemist/5121514.html simply delete the ending to make it http://community.livejournal.com/fm_alchemist/ and then type in "profile" at the end http://community.livejournal.com/fm_alchemist/profile and join the community. Now try and view the DJ post and it should work.
Report any broken links here in a comment.
( Beneath the cut is the huge list ) |

I'm going to be trimming my f-list. If you find yourself removed it's because of a number of reasons:
* I don't feel we have that much in common
* I feel you're better suited at my art lj
* I'm sick of explaining certain things to you
* you creep me out with your inappropriate questions
Don't take it personal if you find yourself removed or blocked. And don't email, text, PM, note, aim, yim, or contact me in any other way about it if you are removed. I won't explain myself, I don't have to any more than I already have. |

Wow, finally some cool "elite" project where the artists actually aren't elite at all. :) That's right, folks, no Kyoht, no Goldenwolfen, etc. The only name I even recognize from this bunch is Novawuff. So in that regard I feel it's worth plugging: http://werewolfcalendar.com/
Some of the paintings are mind blowing too. :) |

This was posted to asexuality and it made such a good point I had to share with the public passing my own LJ. I am asexual. And it gets tiring how often I am asked such strange questions. So here. Gnaw on these questions, you strange sexual people. ;)
This came up in the comments on this post http://community.livejournal.com/asexuality/493546.html.
Sexual Questionnaire
This questionnaire reverses some of the questions that are often asked of asexual people by sexual people. The purpose of these questions is to challenge the assumption that all people inherently are or should be sexual. By trying to answer these questions, one can gain some insight into how oppressive this frame of reference can be.
1. When and how did you first decide you were sexual, and why did you make that choice?
2. What do you think caused your sexuality?
3. Is it possible that your sexuality is just a phase that you will grow out of?
4. Is it possible that your sexuality stems from a neurotic fear of dealing with people and not just their bodies, or from a neurotic obsession with physical bodies, or an inability to see past a body?
5. If you’ve never had a really intimate, asexual relationship with someone, how do you know you wouldn’t prefer that?
6. Sexuality and sexual activity can be indicative of hormonal or psychological problems, and even brain damage. Have you considered getting your hormones checked or having a psychological assessment?
7. Many people who have been sexually abused when young act out sexually and become very sexual later in life. Were you abused as a child or teenager? Is that why you are sexual?
8. To whom have you disclosed your sexual tendencies? How did they react?
9. Would you want your children to be sexual, knowing the problems they would face, and all the complicated things they would need to deal with in their relationships and lives?
10. A disproportionate majority of child molesters are sexual. Do you consider it safe to expose your children to sexual teachers?
11. Sexuals have histories of failed asexual relationships, and not being able to deal with close personal non-sexual relating. Do you think you may have become sexual out of fear of emotional intimacy?
12. How can you have a fully satisfying, deeply emotional experience with another person when you are preoccupied by sex and what your bodies are doing?
13. Sexuals always assign their relationships such narrowly restricted categories of “friend” or “partner”. Why do you cling to such unhealthy and limiting relationship categories? Why can’t you just love?
14. Do you think you’re turning to sexuality because you haven’t met the right person and are desperate and emotionally unfulfilled?
15. Why do so many sexuals try to seduce others into that orientation?
16. Even with all the societal support sexual relationships receive, divorce and messy break-ups continue to cause sexuals profound distress. Why are there so few stable sexual relationships?
17. How do sexuals ever concentrate when they have to deal with the constant bother of sexual attraction and sex drive?
18. Considering that many types of self-destructive, abusive and oppressive behaviors are sexual in nature, how can sexuality be normal and healthy?
19. Why do sexuals need to be validated by having someone else desire them sexually? Why are they so insecure?
20. Many sexual people are only willing to be emotionally intimate with someone if they are in a sexual relationship. Why are sexuals so emotionally frigid?
21. There are many physical risks involved with sexuality, including STI’s and unplanned pregnancy, not to mention the emotional risks of long-term committed sexual relationships. Why would anyone want to be sexual?
22. Since sexuality and problems that stem from it are so painful for so many people, techniques have been developed to help sexuals change. Have you considered trying hormone or aversion therapy?

X-Men Codename Wolverine by Christopher Golden - this book has been on my shelf FOREVER. Was kinda dull since I already knew the story.
Without Reservations by J.L. Langley - hmmm, good book. :) Two male werewolves who find love. I liked the author's take on the folklore too, though more of it would have been nice (but then, she might have had to compromise a sex scene or two.... hmm, tough choice, lol!).
Under Grand Hotel vol 3 and 4 plus the extra - aaaawe! I don't wanna spoil people but damn, this made me weep.
Fullmetal Alchemist chapters 72-74 - OMG! O.O Papa Hoho! O.o WTF! *facepalm* That's just... wrong on so many levels. Wait till Ed finds out and blows up the whole universe. |

Salem's Lot - Stephen King. As with most SK books, good start, but I was bored by the end.
Bless the Beasts and Children - Glendon Swarthout. Sad, but wow...
Ranma 1/2 vol 1. What can I say, I'm in love with this series and had to start from the beginning again now that I have the complete set.
Unger Grand Hotel vol 2. Wow, this has got to be the hottest, most believable yaoi I've read so far. Set in a prison where homosexuality plays a main role. Mostly, rape. Which I find believable. But now and then... complicated love. :) |

I blame sis' co-worker for the establishment of this new LJ community: notuntilitsfair
I'm surprised, actually, how accepted it is. When I began advertising it I braced myself for some hate and flames, but got none. :)
Frankly, I think marriage is over rated anyways, but still- the fact remains that right now in this world marriage is NOT equal. |

Footfall- Larry Niven Death Note vols 10, 11, 12 Red Mars- Kim Stanley Robinson Green Mars- (ditto) Fullmetal Alchemist vols- 12, 13, + chaps 55-71 Too Fat, Can't Fly- Yuko Kondo
( My thoughts )
I'm currently on approx 28 manga vols plus 15 books. As of now I am reading Salem's Lot by Stephen King. I'm well ahead on the manga but as I predicted, reading so much manga has made me "behind" on books. Unless I count the two lists together, then I just have 7 books/manga to go before reaching 50.
It's been hard this month, trying to juggle this 50book challenge and satisfy my muse who really really wants to draw before the summer is over. |

Just 1 more book since my last 50bookchallenge update but a lot of manga. I started keeping 2 seperate lists in my FMA planner and according to these lists I am up to 12 books and 14 manga.
Onto the book-
Sar - John Robert Russel
Interesting read much like King's The Stand, or Stewart's Earth Abides. Humans have, for some reason, mostly died out, and Sar is eventually schooled and then trained to go find out why. :)
The VHEMT supporter in me cheered when Sar finally finds out the reason for his human race being so small now... and it all had started when "despite birth control" and stupid people just kept making more and more "dumb babies" and clogged the earth... and I promise no big spoilers, even though it's not exactly a new and exciting book.
--------- Now the manga I've read-
Death Note volumes 5-9.
( much spoiler and much angry ranting... lj cut ) |

Finished reading Eyes of Desire - A Deaf Gay and Lesbian Reader. I guess because I'm somewhat familiar with both deaf and gay "culture" that this book was nothing new to me. But it was interesting nontheless.
There were a few stories that really stood out thanks to their prose. It was hard NOT to get all wrapped up in them. I laughed at a few, and some had me in tears... I loaned the book to someone already or I'd get it out and cite a few examples.
Anyways, for St Patrick's Day I watched half of season2 of Ballykissangel. I still find it so weird to LIKE this show since the main theme is religion and the main char is a priest. *shakes head* Yeah... anyways, now I'm drinking a margarita which barely passes as green, but what the heck.
We also celebrated at work, Friday, by talking to the kiddies about leprechauns. The kids started out saying they didn't believe and so we warned them that would make the leprechauns mad. After school we DESTROYED the 2 classrooms and left evil little leprechaun notes to the kiddies. Lol. Assuming no one went in after us and cleaned up, I'll take pics and post them Monday morning.
Here's a devil's claw I started painting green today. He's hanging next to several other works in progress. That orange 1 is nearly done, just needs stripes.

I just read my 10th book and 9th manga. For 3 months I'd say that is pretty darn good.
Chibi Vampire vol. 1 - I actually read this back in January but put off writing about it because it was a gift for wifey. Its like the manga "Until the Full Moon" in that it plays with the traditional myths of vampires. Where in Until the Full Moon the main character shifts into a female during fullmoons, here in Chibi Vampire the main character gives blood instead of taking blood from her victims. Its very cute.
Death Note 3 and 4 - omg. L is the most molestable genius I've come across since Jarod and Kyle from The Pretender and Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist. He's uber smart and yet so childish and innocent in some ways. Some of the things he says... "College is fun as long as you don't die." (Vol4, 152) and "...Light-kun is my first ever friend." (Vol4, 132)... are just too cute!
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Land of Sand - as the first "vol" of the series of short novels this wasn't all I wanted. But I thought that characters remained in character... maybe it was just boring because they picked 1 of my least favorite stories from FMA to novelize. I didn't really enjoy the Xenotime characters with Fletcher and Russel Tringum pretending to be Ed and Al in the anime. It wasn't one of the most exciting side stories. And the fight scenes in this book were boooooring and pointless.
Tales of Known Space: The Universe of Larry Niven - wow wow wow, I nearly forgot how much I LOVE Larry Niven. He never bores me! Well... The Ringworld series was a bit annoying in places with rishathra (diplomatic/ritualistic sex between the different human breeds), but... yeah, this book was great. :) |

Here are all the posts I tag as my 50bookchallenge posts so far.
And here are some more:
Lefty Feep - Robert Bloch I thought I would enjoy this book as I LOVED "Fear and Trembling (1989)". But Feep was a huge disapointment, and I have to admit- I never finished. I got halfway through and stopped it was so boring. :(
Fullmetal Alchemist vol 11 - Hiromu Arakawa Best manga ever. OMG. After reading 10, and buying 11, I couldn't wait. I read it so fast. Usually I wait until the next vol is near release before reading mymost recent. For example- I don't read 5 until 6 is just a week or so due for release. But now that the story is soooo different from the anime I am practically inahling each new vol.
In Celebration of Lammas Night - created by Mercedes Lackey Mercedes Lackey's story in this collection was the best 1. I miss reading her good stuff. :) And yes, her story in this collection was good.
Death Note vol 1 AND 2 - Tsugumi Ohba (story) and Takeshi Obata (art) By far the best manga I have read since falling for FMA. And like FMA it has beautiful art and an awesome story.
Petshop of Horrors vol 1 - Akino Matsuri Great story. "Eh, ok" art. But that is what I like about manga and anime... all the ones I love have great stories, no matter what the art looks like. :) |

| Annie Proulx quote |
|
|
| 07:29pm 30/01/2007 |
| |
"Theses characters did something that, as a writer, I had never experienced before- they began to get very damn real. Usually I deal in obedient characters who do what they are told, but Jack and Ennis soon seemed more vivid than many of the flesh-and-blood people around me and there emerged an antiphonal back-and-forth relationship between writer and character. I've heard other writers mention this experience but it was the first time for me." (From Annie Proulx's narrative on how Brokeback got movied)
Just finished reading the screenplay and 2 commentaries in Brokeback Mountain Story To Screenplay. Must rewatch the movie this weekend. |

Triss- Brian Jacques
Eh... I think I've either finally outgrown his books, or this 1 just really sucked. Jacques is definetly a formula writer as nearly every book in the Redwall series has the same plot. But until now that never bothered me...
Fullmetal Alchemist vol 10- Hiromu Arakawa
Zomg. This series gets better with every volume! Poor Havoc! :( And... I always did wonder how Roy got those burns on his stomach in doujinshi. I always assumed he got them from the Ishbal war though. Wow. Intense volume. Now all the Lust/Roy fanfics I see flying around recently are starting to make sense. I guess. *shrug* read it and tell me what *you* think of all that.
Until the Full Moon vol 1- Sanami Matoh
Oh wow, so cute. Lol. The main char is a man, part vampire and part werewolf and turns into a woman during the full moon. Soft yaoi, the most we see is a kiss when the main char is in female form (so really... would that make it het?). And the main char, the uke in the relationship, doesn't really seem to even be interested in sex so far. Hopefully they finally get married in vol 2. Can't wait to pick it up. :) |

Got a 4th book done today for 50bookchallenge. It was given to me in 2005 as a bday gift from the wifey. And I finally read it.
Buffalo Gals and Other Animal Presences by Ursula K. LeGuin. Buffalo Gals was the best story in it. There were a few stories that got so wordy and confusing that I had to just skim them.
I remember trying to read Left Hand of Darkness by her was just as difficult. She has a style that my muse just don't like most the time.
But I definetly liked the first story, Buffalo Gals. Wish it had continued. I wanted to meet Coyote again. |

| The Book of Sorrows |
|
|
| 12:34pm 13/01/2007 |
| |
I'm just going to ramble for now and maybe later edit this for sharing with 50bookchallenge.
For now I'm still kinda floating on that just-finished-a-really-good-book cloud.
I came home yesterday from work, practically inhaled a margarita (I always nurse a drink, but yesterday damn I just wanted to inhale that thing), passed out for a few hours rest. About 1am I started reading. At that time I wasn't even half way through Book of Sorrows. Come 5am I am done, numbed.
Sequal to The Book of the Dun Cow, I read Dun Cow years ago and now kinda want to reread it and hear all over how big Mundo Cani's nose was. *sniffle* :(
Not for people who don't like a good, honest and based in stark reality book. This book had me thoroughly depressed. I cried. I got numb. I cried again.
But there was some celebrations in the book. I laughed along with mother coyote, Rachel. And smiled for JugJug the brown bird at having a friend. I completely related to father coyote, Ferrec, for I too am a skinny twig of nerves. I got mad at Chauntecleer for being so damn human, no real magical hero at all.
But mostly, I mourned along with all the harsh reality. Poor De La Coeur! And... poor John Wesley Weasel for being the only critter with a normal name. ;)
Walter Wangerin Jr has a knack for writing in that poetic way that keeps you reading. I didn't skip a beat. It flowed too smoothly for me to.
One thing, did have my inner kitten slightly hissing. This story was loosley based on a poem, to my understanding. One with a moral at the end. You know the kind. Ok, cool. But... well, ofcourse upon google searching this book one might find a few Christian websites claiming that this book is a Christian allegory book. Uhm... fine. Be annoying. But...
To me, it wasn't. Yes there was a lot of god and a lot of sin talk in this book but by no means did it seem preachy or even religious to me (despite the author being a Protestant minister). If it had, I woulda stopped reading back at the first book. :) so put down your torches.
Though now my religious coworkers are probobly completely confused, lol. A few weeks ago I was leaving Brokeback Mountain on my desk after reading on break, and then this week I had Book of Sorrows out on my desk. Haha, let them wonder.
*ahem*
To me it was just a book on farm animals, struggling in their simple lives. And I love roosters, so how could I not ignore all the god talk to see what would become of the great, but so human Chauntecleer?
And well, now that my weeping for this numbing book is over I think I'll try to finish Brokeback Mountain commentaries, Triss by Brian Jacques, or Eyes of Desire. :) or maybe start another 4th book to read along side these 3. |

| New Years Resolution- to read 50 books. |
|
|

Maybe this will help me finally clean out my "book drawers". I got two filing cabinet drawers measuring 14 inches wide, 10 inches high, and 25 inches deep stuffed to the brims with novels and a few manga waiting for me to read. Not to mention the bookcase, only half of which is art related books, the other half being a mix of interesting books (science related, or true stories) and then more novels.
All have been waiting for me to read them for a very long time.
lycanthrophile, now the 3 books from you that I still need to read should finally get read.
So, if you're a bookworm like me, go join 50bookchallenge and if you're not a person who likes books... don't make me realize how boring you must be by admitting that to me in a reply here. Just move on. Don't you dare diss books on MY lj. *shakes head sadly*
Never woulda found this comm without that spotlight. :) And yea... I do seem to be on a theme/challenge community kick recently.
Anyways, I already have 2 books to add to this year's list! *On break I finished (started in 2006) Alien Nation by Alan Dean Foster. *Brokeback Mountain (just the story, lycanthrophile sent me the book, though now I need to finish the other BBM book I have that has commentaries from the author and movie-maker.
I never make resolutions cause I ALWAYS break them but, meh, 50 books is nothing.
Got a few questions for you guys though- the communities rules state that "book" means any reading material there. So comics and manga would be alright. Buuuut... IMO, reading a manga book compared to even just a short story book like Brokeback Mountain is cheating. I mean, ask any comic fan how long they can finish a manga or comic and it's usually in under an hour. Brokeback took me 1 night, at least an hour but most likely 2 cause I was really trying to savor it.
So... help me decide!
Poll #900836 50books
Open to: All, results viewable to: AllShould Grygon be allowed to include manga in her 50 books? Keep in mind these are usually very short books in comic format, you can usually read one in one sitting within an hour or less. Should she be allowed to include doujinshi (uh... downloaded fan comics) in her 50 books? Keep in mind she reads AT LEAST 7 a week, if not more, as it is. |

Thanks for those to have voted, we decided with Pyrometallon since it does seem to be the mst popular with 60% of the votes as of thursday night.
I'm posting this poll in my personal journal since my art journal can't do polls. So if you want to vote but haven't read the fic, I suppose that is okay too.
Here is the fic we're trying to name (WARNING- rated XXX for man smex like whoa!)
Poll #900125 LJ is a bitch and trying to stop us from naming this fic
Open to: All, results viewable to: AllWhat should we name that fic?
EDIT: bear with me, lj is being a bitch and even tho I see lj-poll html here I am NOT seeing it post as a poll format... finally! had to post a NEW poll in a NEW post, then edit it to get the poll's ###### code, copy and paste it here, then go and delet the new post. why must you be so complicated, lj?!
EDIT2: and now it is not permitting me to see the poll when I want to go make sure people are voting... HELP ME! seriously! had to post ANOTHER NEW POST and this time instead of deleting it, backdated it to 2004, then copied the code here... and voila, NOW it works? lj is so fucking retarded.
HAPPY VOTING!!! |
